Alarm Systems

  • An alarm system connected to an armed response is a very effective deterrent.
  • For a rural environment a panic button in the house and an alarm or siren on a roof which can be heard over a long distance, is a recommendation.
  • It is also wise to install panic buttons in different rooms of your home.
An alarm siren is to make occupants aware of an intrusion.

Examples of alarms could be:

  • Gravel on window sills, pathways or around the home
  • Obstacles that will make a noise if they are moved
  • Mechanical or electrical devices that will sound an alarm
  • Dogs, geese or even ostriches!

Security Lights

  • Security lights on the outside of houses, farms or smallholdings will improve protection of the buildings and also make the occupants aware of movement outside.
  • Always direct the lights away from the house so the occupants can see the intruders from inside without being observed from outside.
  • Be aware of the possible shadows and blind spots on the premises.
