Safety Precautions everyone should keep in mind!

  • When not at home make sure all doors are locked and windows closed.
  • Large dogs serve as a deterrent. A dog kept inside at night is an excellent warning system.
  • Make neighbours aware if you going away and the length of your absence.
  • Don’t leave axes, spades, picks, ladders, etc out, lock them away as they can be used in an attack.
  • Try and vary your daily routine as often as possible.
  • Try to not fall asleep as soon as you have turned off all the house lights, remain awake for a while and be aware of sounds.
  • Make sure you are not visible from the outside while you are sleeping.
  • Keep a torch nearby but when using it don’t give your whereabouts away.
  • If on your return to your home things look suspicious or dogs don’t come to you, do not enter the premises.
  • If caught in the house with an intruder try to get a place of refuge eg. Bathroom, toilet or store room. The fewer doors and windows these rooms have, the better.
  • Ensure your employees are aware of safety regulations in your absence.
  • Report any suspicious behaviour immediately to neighbours / security watch / SAPS.
  • Clear bushes around fences and gates that could be possible hiding places.
  • Take photos of all employees and copy of their identity documents.
  • Award your employees should they give you useful information that contributes to the prevention of a crime.
  • Keep a good relationship with your neighbours so that you can support and help each other
